Information

From the main island of Okinawa, we land on Ishigaki Island, further south, and then head further south to Taketomi Island, a small island surrounded by coral reefs. Why not feel the sky close by, let yourself go with the wind, and enjoy a relaxing holiday?
It takes about 15 minutes by high-speed boat from Ishigaki Island, and many day-trippers visit during the day. From the port, walk up the deigo-lined avenue and into the village. Single-storey houses with red tiled roofs are surrounded by high stone walls. Hibiscus and bougainvillea bloom all year round, and the white sand roads are lined with green camphor trees that provide windbreaks. It's like a maze, and you might end up walking around in circles in the same place. Stroll around and look for the shisa lions on the roofs. Water buffalo carts are a popular tourist attraction.
On the west side of the island, Kondoi Beach has a sea of various shades of blue and white sand, where you can lose track of time while splashing around in the water and taking a nap under a parasol. You can also search for star-shaped sand at the neighboring Kaiji Beach. If you want to snorkel, head offshore to check the tides. On the east side of the island, at the end of a road lined with fluttering butterflies, you'll find Aiyaru Beach. Swimming is prohibited, so you can dip your feet in the water's edge. Or even just enjoy watching the ocean and the waves.
And although it may seem cliché, you will be surprised at how quiet the island is after the last boat has departed. Watch the changing sun set on the West Pier, and look up at the starry sky. The sounds of owls and geckos echo across the moonlit white sand road.
The next morning, you can get up early and go for a walk, or come here to make up for the sleep you've missed.
